Do You Have Bed Bugs?

So you think you might have bed bugs in your Virginia home? But how can you know for sure? The easiest way is to check the folds on your mattress. Bedbugs like to congregate near areas of a food source such as beds. If you can’t find any on your mattress be thorough! Check underneath the mattress, the box spring, and even behind the headboard. If you cannot find any there check the ceiling, especially near the corners. Here in Virginia, you can also find them living behind your wallpaper if you have any. Lastly, check any furniture in the room where you suspect bed bugs. Check the seams of chairs and couches, between cushions, and the folds of curtains. If you are unsure, call us for a free bed bug inspection. We specialize in bed bug removal and bed bug control, and we guarantee that we will remove them completely from your home.

If you do have bedbugs, it is a serious matter. They are notorious for being as hard if not harder to remove than roaches. Their bites are annoying and can lead to infections. And these annoying pests will also disturb your sleep causing sleep deprivation and numerous other mental issues.

Damage to your Home

The good news is that bed bugs do not cause any damage to your home. Although they do make a mess of your furniture if the infestation gets bad enough, cleaning and disinfecting will be enough to fix these issues. Here at Blue Ridge, even though it is extremely rare, we have found bedbugs behind the wallpaper. But if that has happened, you easily would have noticed the infestation by then before it got that bad.

These bed bugs are not interested in your wires, wood, insulation, or anything else that other pests like to get into. They are only interested in you.

Health Hazards from Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs are not only annoying, but they are also a public health hazard. They do not transmit disease, but their bites can cause several issues. For instance, their bites can cause allergic reactions in some people. Which ranges from no reaction to a bite to anaphylaxis.

Their bites can also cause infections that can lead to impetigo, ecthyma, and lymphangitis.

But the biggest concern is mental health. Bed Bugs can cause a restless night’s sleep, and severe paranoia as you do not know when or if they are on you. This will lead to severe anxiety, insomnia, and sleep deprivation.

Frequently Asked Bed Bug Questions

How To Remove Bed Bug Stains
  1. Pre-treat stains with Enzyme fabrix stain Remover
  2. Enzyme-based stain removers are specifically made to combat organic substances such as feces, blood, and other bodily fluids from animals. Doing this will break down the compounds found in organic material making removal much easier and faster.

Make sure to follow the instructions on the cleaner so that not only will the be more effective but also so that you do not stain your mattress or linen even further!

  3. Wash Fabrics in the Washer or Spot Clean the Mattress

    1. Fabrics
    2. Put the fabric in the washing machine on cold and use your normal amount of detergent.

Cold water will keep the organic material loose which will help get them to come out. Hot water will make the material want to stick and sometimes even bind them to the material.

    3. Mattresses
    4. Get a clean rag and soak it in cold water then add a couple of drops of hand soap. Make sure to dab the stains and do not scrub as this could make the stains spread across the mattress. After a while make sure to change to a new rag to prevent spreading.

  4. Treat Stains With Hydrogen Peroxide and Ammonia Mixture
  5. Mix Equal parts of Ammonia and Hydrogen Peroxide into a spray bottle and spray and coat the stains. And then blot them with a clean rag.

This mixture is commonly used for bleaching hair. So make sure to limit the treatments to 10 to 15 minutes to prevent mattress damage. If the stains are still there sprinkle a fine layer of borax after your spray treatment and then rub the borax into the stains lightly with a clean cloth.

Make sure to air-dry the fabrics. Do not leave them in the sun or use heat to dry them. Because if some of the stains are still on them, the heat will bind the stains to the fabric

What is the Main Cause of Bed Bugs?

It is a myth that bed bugs are attracted to filth and dirt. So the good news is that improper hygene is not the reason why bed bugs have gotten into your home. (Although they do like dirty laundry, but that doesn't get them into the house)

Bad news is that the reason why bedbugs have gotten into your home is due to bringing in objects into your home that is already infected with them. This is why before you get second hand furniture or objects you make sure that they are bug free. Any clothes or fabric that can be machine washed absolutely should and make sure to launder them on the highest heat setting. Never buy mattresses second hand unless you do a thorough cleaning and inspection
