About Radford Wildlife Removal

Our Company is based here in Virginia, and we are locally owned. The Radford area is right in our backyard as we are based here in Blue Ridge near Roanoke Virginia and the surrounding counties of Montgomery and Pulaski. We strive for professional, effective, and humane wildlife removal and exclusion. After 25 years of working here, we know the Radford area like the back of our hand. From the banks of the New River the farmland near Dublin, and the mountains at Snowville, we will work everywhere that has a wildlife issue. Apartments? Farm homes? Ranches? Suburbs? We deal with them all. We pride ourselves in making sure that the wildlife gets out and then stays out.

Where Are They in Your Radford Home?

Chimneys are the largest opening for animals to get into your home. Raccoons, Birds, and Squirrels love to nest in chimneys, and sometimes they fall in and land in your living room! We offer chimney caps to make sure that they cannot get in, and to let the smoke out without any issues.

Wildlife on your Radford roof may not seem like an issue. But eventually, they will want to get inside and cause damage when they do. Animals such as raccoons or squirrels love places that are hard for predators to get into and a safe place to build a nest to raise young. And areas such as the inside of your roof are ideal. If you are unsure if you have animals in your attic call us for the premiere Radford Wildlife Removal today for a free inspection

Vents such as dryer vents, bathroom and kitchen vents, and attic vents are one of the easiest ways wildlife can get into your home. If they are uncovered, it is a hole that leads directly into your home! they are great places for birds to build their nest and is a major health and fire hazards if not taken care of.

Places such as kitchens and bathrooms are other places where you can find wildlife in your home. Snakes and Rodents are the calls we get the most in the common areas of the home. And if you have snakes, odds are you have prey in your homes such as insects or rodents.

Soffits (The overhanging part of the roof) and gutters are extremely common areas where we find wildlife. Water damage can make small holes allowing animals such as squirrels and rodents to crawl through to get access to your home, and are a pain to get rid of on your own.

Raccoons, skunks, moles, and more are infamous for lawn damage. But not only that, but you also have to worry about snakes such as the Copperhead and the Timber Rattlesnake. We offer snake repellent and other wildlife repelling services to make sure that they do not come back

Many species of wildlife love to be in your basement or crawlspace. Snakes, Raccoons, and rodents are but a few we find down there. Basements are easy to get to and make it an easy home to hide from predators. Or in some cases such as snakes, a place to find prey.

Skunks, raccoons, and even snakes like to be underneath your deck and patio. One is venomous while the others can cause damage to the deck and your home. Getting these animals will be cramped and extremely dangerous as your face will be on their level. Calling a professional is highly recommended.

Once wildlife can get in, they will rarely show themselves to humans. The vast majority of the time, if they are inside, they are in your walls. At Blue Ridge, we find that exclusion and removal work best. To keep them out of your walls, we need to find where they are coming from. Unsure if you have wildlife in your walls? Call us for premiere Radford Wildlife Removal Today!

Frequently Encountered Radford Wildlife

Bat Removal

Up close image of a Bat
Bats are very important to Virginia’s ecosystem and are the perfect animals to keep insect populations in check. But it’s not great that they sleep in your house. Bats transmit numerous diseases through themselves and the guano they accumulate in their attics and where they sleep in the house. This guano causes respiratory problems that can be deadly for children and the elderly. It also attracts parasites such as fleas, ticks and bats. Bats are nocturnal and can be easily spotted when they wake up at dusk and leave their roosts.
They are found in attics, basements, roofs and soffits. These holes look like mouse holes and can be very small. If you see bats during the day, stay away from them. Bats during the day are a sign of rabies. In fact, never get too close to bats. Instead, you should contact wildlife control professionals who are trained in bat control. Click here for more information on bats.

Inspection

Our free inspection includes looking for openings in the roof as they are the most common places to find bats. We look for bat droppings and guano, which are always present in or near these holes. Next, we check the chimney, fascia, soffit, and attic vents for signs of bats.

Removal and Exclusion

At Blue Ridge, we strive to get rid of bats as humanely as possible. Because of this, our removal and exclusion programs are the same. Instead of physically exterminating the bats, we install a one-way door that allows them to exit but not return. In our 20 years of service we have learned that the best way to get rid of bats is physical bat exclusion, not ultrasound or repellent sprays.

Repairs

After confirming that the bats are gone, the entrance will be closed and sealed off and then the cleaning will begin. Bat guano is dirty and dangerous. Our professionals have respirators and other protective equipment on hand to protect themselves from harm. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you seek professional help to remove bat guano, so you will not be in danger of getting ill.

Snake Removal

A snake in a bird feeder, showing the need for Snake Removal in Radford and Radford wildlife removal
Many people here in Radford are afraid of snakes, but snakes play an important role in the ecosystem here in Virginia. Snakes help reduce rodent and insect populations, and help control pest populations in your garden and home. Snakes do no harm to your homes and prefer to be left alone. If you find a snake in your garden, the best thing to do is leave it alone until it disappears.
Radford has two types of venomous snakes, the Eastern Copperhead and the Timber’s Rattlesnake. Don’t get near these snakes as their bite can lead to a costly and life threatening trip to the emergency room. We know that your family and pets are your top priority. So if you have one of these snakes or are unsure, contact a professional to get rid of these snakes. Learn more about snakes here.

Inspection

We look for evidence of snakes, including snake skins, droppings, the snake itself, and most importantly prey. Snakes only come to places where food is plentiful, so if we find evidence of prey, now we know why the snake is in your home. If you have snakes in your home or garden, then odds are their prey will be scurrying in and around your home. Call us for a free inspection, where we will not only try to find evidence of snakes, but other animals as well.

Removal and Exclusion

Our priority is getting rid of snakes safely and humanely. We will also remove and release the snake according to Virginia law. We will use repellent and traps to make sure that they do not come back, and we will check frequently to make sure they stay effective.

Repairs

Snakes do not damage homes, but we are happy to remove snake skin and droppings from your property. Next, we at Radford Wildlife Removal will explain how to keep snakes out of your home and your property.

Squirrels

Radford Gray Squirrel Caught by one of Our Technicians - Radford Wildlife Removal
Here in Southwest Virginia, we have two species of squirrel: tree squirrels and flying squirrels. Both are squirrels, but their habits are very different. Flying squirrels can glide and are nocturnal, while tree squirrels do not glide and can be spotted during the day.
But squirrels can be a threat to your home. They can tear clapboards, burrow holes in soffits, start nesting, and give birth in walls and attics. More importantly, squirrels are major carriers of the disease. Especially since flying squirrels can contract typhoid fever, a disease common to flying squirrels and their nests.  Click here to learn more about our squirrel trapping.

Inspection

Our technicians will inspect your home for squirrel activity such as: home openings, nesting debris, and squirrel feces. We also search for finer details that show signs of attempted intrusion, such as scratches on the rain gutters, and the soffits.

Removal and Exclusion

Because of their paranoia, squirrels are difficult to catch and can escape quickly. That’s why we outsmart squirrels with one-way doors, live traps, and deterrents. We ensure these squirrels are captured according to Virginia Laws, as humanely as possible.

Repairs

If we find squirrel damage in eaves or gutters, we will repair it on the spot. We take pride in ensuring your home looks just like it did before the squirrels started making a mess. This includes decontamination, nest cleaning, and removal.

Raccoons

A raccoon caught here by our Radford Wildlife Removal team
These animals are nocturnal, so they cannot be found during the day. If you want to catch them on site and in the act, you have to go out late at night to find them. Contrary to its appearance, its jaws and claws are tough and dangerous and can be easily damage homes if it wants to break in.
Raccoons carry many diseases such as rabies, roundworms and leptospirosis. And when threatened, they immediately attack. For this reason, never approach a raccoon, especially if it is daytime as daytime roaming raccoons tend to have rabies. And instead call a wildlife removal company to remove the animal from your property.

Inspection

At Blue Ridge we offer Free inspections which includes finding traces such as raccoon footprints, feces, and damage. This includes large openings near roofs, walls and soffits.

Removal and Exclusion

Bait and traps are installed near the entrance to remove raccoons humanely. Then we install a one-way door so that those who are still at your home can leave, but not return.

Repairs

After we have cleared the raccoons from your home, we start repairing the damaged areas. First we remove one-way doors, seal entry areas, and replace damaged or contaminated insulation. Our disinfection process includes removal of fecal and animal matter, and spraying to inhibit the growth of bacteria and parasites.

Rats

A Rat here in Radford - Radford Wildlife Removal
Rats are a threat because they give birth very often and very quickly. Once infested by rodents, it is almost impossible to get rid of them. Rats can invade anywhere From low-income apartments to multi-million dollar mansions, every home has what it needs: food, so rats can infest it.
Rats cause property damage, spread disease, and eat your food. They also carry parasites such as fleas and ticks, which themselves continue to cause some of humanity’s worst diseases. They also wreak havoc on homes by chewing on wires that can start fires and by ruining other building materials such as insulation and wood. If you believe you may have rats, contact a wildlife removal company immediately. The sooner you do, the less damage they can inflict.

Inspection

Rats are very messy, so finding them is not difficult. When you have a problem with rats, we often find droppings and nests very quickly as their evidence is very apparent. We look for signs of infestation such as droppings or movement on walls, ceilings, and floors.

Removal and Exclusion

All homes are different. There is a difference between the Forest House near Fairview and the home near Fairlawn. We typically use one-way doors and spray to keep rats out, but we’ll tell you about planning your unique home.

Repairs

Our team can apply caulk to cracks, and seal holes, install grilles in vents, and even clean up after rodent removal, including removing nests and removing excrement and other animal matter.

Birds

A bird Flying out of a Radford Home's Vent

You wouldn’t expect birds to be a problem for homeowners, but these wildlife love to enter vents to build nests. These nests can clog vents and cause fires if not dealt with quickly as their nests will trap heat and particles that can ignite. Their feces carry many diseases and nests attract parasites. It’s not uncommon for insects to come out of bathroom or stove vents because birds build nests in them. Woodpeckers are found here in Radford, damaging homes. They poke hundreds of holes in the sides of your home. These holes they make get bigger and can allow other animals to enter your home. Removing these birds from your home is a pain especially if the birds are on the second floor. Consider asking a professional.

If you want to learn more about Bird Removal click here.

Inspection

Our free inspection includes searching the vents for damaged covers. These usually have vents to keep animals out, but they can be damaged over time allowing them access. Then, we look down the chimney, or inside the gutters and soffits  with a camera to find the nest and bird guano. We also look for nests outside your home, especially if you have woodpeckers.

Removal and Exclusion

First, we remove the birds from the vents, remove the nests, and clean the vents by cleaning up the droppings. Then, install vent covers that match the look of your home so they don’t look out of place. We also provide bird spikes and bird netting to prevent nesting in certain areas such as the inside of stores. We also use mechanical, visual, acoustic, and sprays to deter birds. Not all homes are the same, so we offer a variety of solutions to keep all species at bay.

Repairs

Most often our bird repairs consist of cleaning and bird sanitation. We clean and remove nests from vents and remove guano on your home or property.

Suzanne Ellerman

I used Blue Ridge Wildlife to help with a yellow jacket problem – the insects were coming into my basement through the fireplace and dying by the French doors at the rate of 15 a day. Cedric was very thorough in his assessment and tailored the approach to try the least invasive measures first It ended up being a complicated issue with the entry point being through the chimney cap. Cedric and Brandon did a great job diagnosing and treating.

Deborah Wells

Brandon was very helpful on the initial call/consultation. When Cody arrived to inspect the space and draw up the quote he was very knowledgeable and confident he could help us. It wasn’t a quick process but we did have a huge issue with the bats. The crew that did the work was awesome as well, Emanual and his crew were thorough and kept the space clean. It was a long road but the bats who rated our house as a 5 Star Resort… are gone, along with their massive mess. Thank you!
